Confessions of A Thrift Junkie #3

Two weekends ago, we went down to visit Wes' parents in Oak City, UT. It is such a tiny, quiet town. It was so nice to get away from the city and enjoy the beautiful weather and clear air. :)

Confessions of a Thrift Junkie

I hope you had a great Valentine's weekend! It was so nice to have Wes home every afternoon the last few days. :) Plus, the weather has been a lot warmer!

It seemed appropriate to wear red pants. And the shirt I wore when we got engaged--ultra sappy, I know. Another one of those outfits that started with a $4 pair of pants....

After February 14th, I totally transition to spring mindset. I hope the weather agrees!

Confessions of a Thrift Junkie

I don't claim by any means to have a good sense of style. In fact, I'm not sure that I have any sense of it at all. I love going to thrift stores, clearance racks, and yard sales and searching out quirky items that are cute in their own peculiar way.

Do you shop for an entire outfit at a time, or pieces here and there? I prefer to buy a piece here and there. I love the challenge of taking home my treasure and putting it together with others to create an outfit. Not that these outfits actually match, but they "go together" to my taste, and I'm happy with that. Am I the only quirky one?

Candy Corn Inspired Nails and Chocolatey Spiders

I haven't dressed up for Halloween as an adult, I was hesitant at first, but we had tons of fun in our costumes at work! I was a nerd....

I had almost more fun painting my nails with a Candy Corn theme....

We had a Scary Grub Contest at work. I'm not much for gross and creepy, so I went with these no-bake spider cookies!

No-Bake Spider Cookies
Adapted from Architect Mom
1/2 cup butter
3 Tablespoons Cocoa Powder
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup honey
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup peanut butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups oatmeal
Crunchy Chow Mein Noodles
M&Ms
1. Mix butter, cocoa, sugar, milk, and honey in a sauce pan, and bring to a boil.
2. Lower heat, and stir in peanut butter and vanilla until peanut butter is melted.
3. Remove from heat, and add oatmeal.
4. Allow mixture to cool. (I let mine sit for 2 hours)
5. Spoon onto wax paper.
6. Stick 8 crunchy noodles into each cookie for legs, and 2 M&Ms for eyes
These were so easy! No baking or anything. :)

Have a happy Halloween Night!

Black and White Inspiration

I would normally consider myself pretty colorful when it comes to clothes, but this summer I seemed to be drawn to a lot of black and white. Its so classic, but still fun and creative.  For me, its kind of like a blank canvas :) You can add so much with black and white, the possibilities are endless. I realized this wardrobe inspiration stems from some of my sister's artwork that has been hanging on the refrigerator all summer.

I love these! The simple color scheme brings out the little details so much more. Here is my expression in black and white.

So now that Labor Day is over, there's that rule about no more wearing white.....

Does anyone follow that rule anyways?

Long Skirts, Perfect for Fall!

I ADORE dressing up! I'd love to wear skirts and dresses to school...but, between tying shoes, reaching down to those tiny little desks, and sitting criss-cross apple sauce, pencil skirts just aren't working out for me!

I found my solution...
My new favorite fall fashion is long skirts!

Floor length skirts and maxi dresses are so comfortable...

You can do ANYTHING in them....
And I have landed some amazingly cheap finds!

 Definitely ready for October!

Pancakes...in the oven?!

This morning I tried a new recipe for breakfast called Panukakku (don't ask me how you say that :) It was the easiest thing ever! I just mixed all the ingredients and threw it in the oven. It tastes a lot like a pancake, but less flour and more egg....so maybe its healthier? ;)

Panukakku (Finnish Pancake)

5 eggs                    2 cups milk
3/4 cup sugar         1 stick butter
1 cup flour              cinnamon or nutmeg
1 tsp salt

Preheat the oven to 375°. Put the stick of butter in a 9x13 pan and put in the oven to melt. Beat all ingredients together until mixed except cinnamon/nutmeg.  Be sure butter greased the bottom of the pan and a little way up the sides of the pan when melted.  Pour butter in pan, sprinkle cinnamon or nutmeg to taste on top.  Bake for 35 min.

I think this will be a great recipe for Sunday mornings, you can just throw it in the oven and go get ready! Everyone here loved it :)

On another note... Here is Samantha's pick for today...

Today I'm linking up to Boogieboard Cottage!
