I am loving the idea of vintage inspired Valentine's decor! Burlap or Kraft brown just call out my name, and red is my favorite color, so I am all over any decorations pairing the two.
I made this little burlap heart banner to give my untreated kitchen window a little Valentine pizazz.
You will need:
1 yard Burlap
Dish sponge
1 sheetcard stock
red craft paint
scissors
paint brush
baker's string
sharpie
clothes pin
1. Create a flag shape from card stock. I used a 4x6 piece. Using your flag as a pattern, carefully cut a flag shape from your burlap.
2. Once you have 1 burlap flag cut, use it as a pattern instead of the card stock for the rest of your flags. Burlap on burlap is easier to keep in place as you cut.
3. Cut a 2-3 in heart from card stock and trace it onto your sponge.
4. Cut your heart out of the sponge.
5. Clip your pin to the back of the heart to use as a handle. Pour red paint onto a paper plate or cardboard.
6. Dip your sponge into the paint and slide around until the heart is covered.
7. Carefully lay your heart paint down in the center of the flag. Press down firmly {Make sure to place a scratch paper underneath to keep paint from seeping through the burlap onto your work surface.}
8. Carefully lift your heart stamp up.
9. Optional, but I added paint to fill some of the holes and make my heart more solid.
10. Allow paint to dry and repeat on each flag.
11. Fold the top half inch of a flag over, and cut 2 small, centimeter long vertical slits about an inch and a half apart.
12. Starting underneath the flag, weave string through all your flags in a line.
And, you're done! Hang your banner and space your flags out evenly.
Do you do much decorating for the 14th? Not to be overdone, but I love a little sweet glamor for the special day!
