Amish Peanut Butter

Hello, Raindrops on Roses readers! My name is Hannah, and I am thrilled to be guest posting for my dear friend, Jacqueline.

A few years ago I had the privilege of inviting Jacqueline to my hometown, and introducing her to the Amish way of life. Although Jacqueline enjoyed driving around the countryside and learning about the Amish – I think her favorite take-a-way from the weekend was the delicious concoction known as Amish Peanut Butter, or Church Spread.

On Sundays, the Amish hold church services in members’ homes as opposed to a designated building. The service is usually followed by a simple lunch of bread with - - you guessed it - - Amish Peanut Butter!

As Christmas is fast approaching, this would be a great idea to give as a gift! It is great to eat with bread, fruit, vegetables, and even ice cream! I hope you enjoy this simple recipe from the Amish.

You’ll Need:

1 1/4 lb creamy peanut butter

1 quart marshmallow crème

3/4 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup white Karo syrup

3/4 cup warm water

1/4 lb butter (1 stick)

Instructions:

Heat brown sugar, warm water, and butter together until butter is melted. Mix peanut butter,

marshmallow crème and Karo syrup in a bowl, then add melted ingredients gradually. This will be thin

but let it stand for 1-2 days and it will be just right! Keeps long time in refrigerator.
